PRAYER MEETINGs

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. "

Colossians 3:16

One of the most precious privileges we have as Christians is to commune with our Triune God in prayer.  We do this individually during the week, as well as together as a church on Sunday morning.  Because we value communing with our Heavenly Father in prayer we want to invite you to come and join us for a monthly time of prayer and singing the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm at 3510 Williston Road, Minnetonka (Minnetonka Seventh-Day Adventist Church).

During this time of prayer we share the joys and burdens on our hearts as we cry out to the Lord and lift up prayers of adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication to the Lord.   Each month we will also look at one psalm together and pray through the psalm as we “hide the word of God in our hearts” (Psalm 119:11).

As one pastor says:

“The Psalms teach us to pray through imitation and response…Real prayer is always an answer to God’s revelation. The Psalms are BOTH prayer and revelations about God: the perfect ideal soil for learning prayer. The Psalms take us deep into our own hearts 1000 times faster than we would ever go if left to ourselves…Religious/moral people tend to want to deny the rawness and reality of their own feelings, especially the darkness of them…The secular world has almost made an idol of emotional self-expression…But the Psalmists neither ‘stuff’ their feelings nor ‘ventilate’ them. They pray them–they take them into the presence of God until they change or understand them.

Most importantly, the Psalms force us to deal with God as He is, not as we wish he was. ‘Left to ourselves, we will pray to some god who speaks what we like hearing, or to the part of God we manage to understand. But what is critical is that we speak to the God who speaks to us, and to everything He speaks to us…the Psalms train us in that conversation.”

In addition to praying together we will also sing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16).  As we pray and sing together our hearts are knit together in love for the Lord and for each other.

We hope you can join us for this time of prayer, singing, and fellowship.
